CONNECT WITH YOUR FOODConvivium’s classes are the tools that turn your curiosities and interests into knowledge and skills on a variety of food-related topics. Our classes are designed to inspire confidence, creativity, and self-sufficiency in the kitchen and garden, as well as to empower participants in their pursuit of a more wholesome and secure food experience.
Everyone eats, so in order to ensure everyone has access to this important and transformative information, we offer all of our classes and workshops on a self-selecting, sliding fee scale. Classses are one of three ways that we accomplish our mission of improving life through food. We offer them, along with demonstrations and experiences, on topics that cover three (of the many) areas of the food system: the production (GROW), preparation and preservation (COOK), and the sharing and enjoyment of food (EAT). |
CONVIVIUM CLASSES
Gardening ClassesConvivium's gardening classes teach you the knowledge and skills of how to grow your own food. Our class series runs from January through November -- following the entire season from planning and seed starting to harvesting, fall bed prep, and composting. We offer free Lunch n' Learns, in-person (and some virtual) classes and workshops, as well as instructional videos on our social media pages. All levels are welcome!

Cooking ClassesConvivium cooking classes teach the knowledge and skills of how to prepare and preserve food. From basic knife skills, to a quick breads series, to water bath canning -- our classes focus on scratch cooking whole foods and reconnecting participants to their food in a fun, interactive way. These hands-on classes and interactive demos are often inspired by what we are harvesting in our neighborhood gardens (think Bloody Mary's and Homemade Pesto!).

Private Cooking ClassesConvivium's private cooking classes offer an intimate, fun, and interactive dinner experience where you can help prepare (or watch, if that's more your style) a delicious meal before sitting down to enjoy it together. Whether you are looking for a corporate team building idea or a fun way to socialize with friends, we have many different menu options and price points to choose from. Call 563-557-2900 or email [email protected] to schedule today.

Kids Classes & CampsConvivium's kids classes and camps are designed to expose kids to real foods, provide the knowledge of where our food comes from and the importance of healthy choices, and teach the skills of how to prepare simple recipes and snacks using fresh ingredients. We offer these classes in partnership with other organizations and schools as they are fun activities for scout troops, birthday parties, extracurricular programming, and/or summer camps!

Good & Cheap Cooking ClassGood & Cheap is an adult and family cooking class based on the cookbook by Leanne Brown called, Good & Cheap: Eat Well on $4/day. Sliding Scale FeeConvivium is a nonprofit committed to helping increase accessibility to the tools and knowledge of how to grow and prepare your own food. As part of this commitment, and in pursuit of a more wholesome and secure food experience for all, we offer most of our classes on a self-selecting, sliding scale.
The sliding scale system allows for classes to be obtained at multiple price points, allowing folks who may otherwise be priced out of something to have the chance to take part in it. |

When completing a class registration, participants can self-select from the following three payment levels:
Contributor: The contributor level is a pay-what-you-can option that allows you to do just that – pay what you are able to for the class, at this time. *Please note there is a $5 minimum per the Eventbrite platform. If this minimum, or paying with a credit card, is a barrier, please call us at 563.557.2900. Supporter: The supporter level is the normal ticket price of this class. It covers all the supplies and materials needed, as well as the instructor fee. Sustainer: The sustainer level is a buy-one, give-one model that covers the complete cost of your class plus a small donation that helps supplement the cost of a Contributor level participant. By choosing this level, you are ensuring we can continue to offer our classes in a way that is accessible and affordable to all – thank you for your generosity. |
