TOUR CONVIVIUM URBAN FARMSTEAD
A tour of Convivium Urban Farmstead is an interactive and unique experience that showcases our urban farm and facility, as well as teaches you about our mission and outreach efforts to increase access to healthy food here in the North End of Dubuque, Iowa.
Our walking tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and highlights our three types of gardens where we grow food in our neighbors' backyards both for the restaurant and the community and teaches you the history of the buildings, showing you how the owners transformed abandoned greenhouses into a community resource. You will see our compost operation, meet our backyard chickens, and view a variety of unique, small-space gardening techniques.
You will also eat your way through the neighborhood – tasting fresh herbs, cucamelons and cherry tomatoes picked right off the vine, and a variety of other plants that we are growing this year!
Tours can be modified to be given year-round, but are most interesting (and tasty) during the growing season
(May through September).

WAYS TO TOUR
GUIDED GROUP TOUR
Do you have a group of 10 or more people that would like to take the tour together? Our guided group tours, which can accommodate bus tour groups up to 100 people, also offer meal options so everyone can enjoy some delicious food before or after the tour.
Reservations must be completed at least one month in advance and can be scheduled by emailing Leslie or calling 563.557.2900. Fees vary based on group size and meal choice.
GUIDED PRIVATE TOUR
If you find yourself in the area and would like to learn more about Convivium, private tours of less than 10 people are available upon request and are dependent on staff availability at that time.
While it’s best to schedule your tour in advance (email Leslie), you can also ask one of the baristas while you are here to see if anyone is available to walk you around. These tours are given with a suggested donation of $10/person
Our 15 stop, self-guided tour is free and will guide you around the neighborhood to see all of our main attractions.
Maps and the first stop will be located in the coffee shop (on the back of the menu) during business hours (Wednesday through Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm) as well as in an outdoor mailbox on our patio during off hours.
YOUTH FIELD TRIPS
Convivium offers interactive field trips that focus on exposure to real food and hands-on experiences of how to grow and prepare it for students K-12.
Students will visit our backyard chickens that provide eggs for our restaurant, meet the worms that turn our kitchen food scraps into compost, and can taste their way around the neighborhood as they tour our gardens.
Field trips are $5 per student, with scholarships available. Additional garden and kitchen activities are available to add-on after the tour.
Eat Local, Feed Local
Convivium is a nonprofit whose mission is to improve life through food. We accomplish our mission through classes, demonstrations, and experiences that use food to foster connection to ourselves, our community and our environment.
Your patronage at Convivium, whether it is by taking a gardening class, touring our farm, or grabbing brunch with your friends, helps to support our outreach efforts to eliminate food insecurity in our community. Thank you.
