Herb Spiral Workshop

Date: Saturday, May 15 from 9 am to 12 pm

Do you have limited sun, space or time to garden? Want a highly productive, energy-efficient and attractive way to grow herbs? Upgrade your windowsill planter and consider an herb spiral!

 Join Convivium Farm Manager, A.J., for this interactive workshop where you will first learn the basics of what an herb spiral is and how it functions, and then assist in the actual building of an herb spiral in one of our neighborhood gardens. 

This class is very hands-on as you will be building the potato towers from start to finish, please dress accordingly.

Information and advice will be provided on the best herbs to grow in the different parts of the spiral – you will even tour Convivium’s spiral!

Potato Tower Workshop

Date: Saturday, April 17 from 9 am to 12 pm

Want to grow potatoes but don’t think you have the space, or just don’t want to break your back digging them up?

 Join Farm Manager, A.J., for this interactive workshop where you’ll learn all about potatoes, how to grow them, and an alternative growing method that will maximize your growing space with a fun, easy-to-build tower.

 This class is very hands-on as you will be building the potato towers from start to finish, please dress accordingly.

Seed Starting, Online Class

Date: Thursday, March 4 from 6 to 7 pm

Experience the joy of starting your favorite vegetable plants from seed! Join Convivium’s Farm Manager A.J. for an introduction to seed starting where you will learn about general information of seeds, selecting seeds, and the actual process of planting and caring for seedlings.

 He will also discuss soil mixes, setting up a calendar, dormancy and germination, up-potting and hardening off.

The class with be 45 minutes long and 15 minutes of optional Q&A with AJ at the end.

Planning the Season, Online Class

Date: Thursday, February 18 from 6 to 7 pm

It’s simple enough to go to the store and buy whatever seedlings strike your fancy, but if you’re the type of person that likes to plan every detail down to the individual seed and the day you’ll start harvesting – this class is for you!

Join Convivium Farm Manager, A.J., to discuss all aspects of garden planning: calculating timing and creating a calendar, assessing space and layouts, selecting and ordering seeds, and more.

Homemade Pots, Online Mini-Class

Date: Tuesday, February 23 from 12 to 12:30 pm

Join Convivium Farm Manager, A.J. as he describes, displays, and demonstrates a variety of homemade alternatives to the traditional plastic seed starting tray. From avocado skins to toilet paper rolls, see how your waste can be turned into biodegradable pots for your vegetable seedlings.

The class with be 20 minutes long and 10 minutes of optional Q&A with AJ at the end.

Small Space Methods, Online Class

Dates: Tuesday, February 9 from 6 to 7 pm

In this online class, learn about a variety of techniques to make the most of your garden this year – no matter how small! From containers in window sills, to larger containers on patios, to getting the most of the space you have in your garden, Convivium’s Farm Manager, A.J., will teach you how to maximize production and answer all your questions about small garden spaces.

This class is for anyone who hesitate to garden due to space restraints, as well as gardeners looking to increase productivity in the space that they have.

Garden Terminology, Online Mini-Class

Date: Thursday, February 4 from 12 to 12:30 pm

Whether it’s understanding the differences between heirlooms, hybrids, cultivars, and varieties; or making sense of Latin botanical names – understanding the terminology of gardening is essential to expand your skills as a gardener. During this free, mini-class, Farm Manager AJ will shed some light on some of gardening’s most pertinent vocabulary.

This virtual class will be 20 minutes long and 10 minutes of optional Q&A at the end.

Basics of Gardening, Online Class

Date: January 28 from 6 to 7 pm

In this virtual class, you will gain the knowledge and confidence to start growing your own food this year. Convivium’s Farm Manager, AJ, will walk you through the why, what, where and how’s of getting started with your garden. You will learn how to pick a method and appropriate location, things to think about when deciding what to grow, and the easiest ways to plant and maintain your garden.

This class is for anyone in need of a little confidence to finally start growing your own food, as well as current gardeners looking to broaden and strengthen their foundations.
