Zero Food Waste Kitchen: Demo & Discussion – Cancelled

April 22, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Due to COVID-19 this class has been cancelled. Stay safe and healthy and find a way to celebrate Earth Day from home!

Did you know that over 40% of food being grown or processed for consumption in the US is wasted? Also, in Dubuque and Delaware counties FOOD makes up the largest percentage of waste going into municipal landfills!

But what does this mean? And what can we do?

Join us on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day for a discussion on the ways we can reduce food loss through the entire supply chain and a demonstration on ways to decrease food waste in our own kitchens.

Chef Saralyn will share information from her James Beard Foundation Waste Not educational course and show you practical, creative approaches of how to cook, store, and process food that will reduce your household food waste as well as decrease your grocery bill!

(The average US family of 4 wastes over $1800 each year throwing away food…)

Recipes, tips for full-use cooking, and light food samples will be provided.

This event is free, with a suggested donation of $5 which will go to support Convivium’s outreach programming for food insecure families.
