Black Walnuts – A Botanical and Culinary Adventure

Join Kaytlan Moeller, Dubuque Country naturalist and Leslie Shalabi, co-founder of Convivium Urban Farmstead for an afternoon of learning about and cooking with black walnuts – harvested from Swiss Valley Nature Preserve.
In this class, you will learn about the black walnut tree as well as tips and techniques for harvesting and processing black walnuts. Then, you will step into Convivium’s kitchen with Leslie to learn four unique recipes using black walnuts:
- walnut power bars
- walnut pie
- walnut “meat” tacos
- and a savory black walnut “sausage” filling
Participants will make and enjoy each of the dishes during class and recipes will be provided to take home. PURCHASE TICKETS HERE.
Registration for this class is $35. All proceeds support Convivium’s outreach efforts that provide access and education to children and families struggling with food access.
