Whatcha doin’ Friday night? We have a great event planned at Convivium — a screening of “Hearts of Glass”, which made it’s debut here in Dubuque at last year’s Julien Dubuque International Film Fest. The film follows the tumultuous first 15 months of Vertical Harvest, a social impact business with a dual mission: growing produce year-round in a challenging mountain environment and providing meaningful employment for people with disabilities.

Filmmaker Jennifer Tennican will be here at Convivium to introduce the film and participate in a panel discussion after the hour-long film.

Heart of Glass reveals the highs and lows of an innovative startup, while offering an intimate look into the professional and personal lives of an often overlooked population. Tennican says the film is as much about sustainable food production as it is about social entrepreneurship, disability advocacy and community inclusion.

Doors at Convivium will open at 6:30 pm and there is a $10 suggested donation that helps support the filmmaker. The film will start at 7 pm and lasts about an hour. There will be a half-hour panel discussion immediately following the film. Beer, wine and coffee drinks as well as snacks will be available for purchase.

This event is generously sponsored by MidWest One Bank and Hills & Dales.
