Connect with your food and learn something new.

Convivium is the Latin word for “feast.” It is the idea of coming together in celebration around food. The mission of Convivium Urban Farmstead is to create community around food – growing, preparing, and of course, enjoying food. One of the ways we share our mission is through a variety of cooking, gardening and woodworking classes for both kids and adults. We use all aspects of the food cycle to educate and create opportunities for learning, openness, connection and inclusion.

Cooking Classes. Our cooking classes focus on scratch cooking whole foods and reconnecting participants to their food in a fun, interactive way. We grow as much food as we can in our own neighborhood gardens for both the restaurant and the community classes. Because of that, the class schedule is constantly changing, especially during the growing season depending on what we are harvesting. Be on the look out for classes such as homemade Bloody Mary canning classes with Convivivum tomatoes, celery and peppers; homemade pesto with freshly harvested basil; and artisan breads with fresh herbs.

Gardening Classes. Our gardening classes look to connect participants to the source of their food, the environment, and give them the skills and confidence to grow their own food, even in an urban setting. There are endless benefits to growing your own food and although the local food movement is on the rise, too few of us know about the food we eat – where it grows, who grows and harvests it, how it is grown and processed, how it benefits our health, or the impact of our food choices on the world around us. Our classes look to educate and empower participants to reconnect with our food source through classes such as backyard composting, planning your garden and starting seeds, potato towers and other vertical growing alternatives, and so much more.
